Parts and Labor WARRANTIES

Springs break, and usually at the most inconvenient time. If you hear a very loud bang and see something that looks like the picture above then you definitely have a broken spring.

Usually your door WILL NOT OPEN, we would advise you not to try as this may result in damage to your opener.

Garage doors don’t usually come off track by themselves. Some of the reasons that they do are, something is obstructing the door when it is opening/closing, they have weak springs, or that the door got hit (run into or backed into)

Accelerating instead of braking. New drivers forgetting to open the garage door. Parents in a hurry to get kids to school. We’ve seen it all. Accidents happen and they always happen at the most inconvenient time. We are experts getting your garage door back in perfect working order.

Depending on the damage to the section sometimes they can be repaired. In the unfortunate event they have to be replaced many things have to be established.

Although garage doors look the same unfortunately they are not, there are MANY variations. Different manufacturers have different designs and different models within those.  In order to replace a section we first need to establish who made the door and the model number, then we need to find out if it is available (some manufacturer’s have discontinued models and some manufacturers are no longer in business).

When you have a broken spring quite often you will find that the cables will become unwound too. They are usually not broken as they are a steel cable (unless they get cut) As part of the spring repair the cables are wound back on the drum.  If it is necessary to replace the cables we can take care of that.

Many things can go wrong with your garage door opener. From a simple issue such as misaligned safety sensors, and wore gear and sprocket, to a more serious problem of a malfunctioning circuit board. All of these issues large or small we can take care of them all.

There are three different styles of garage door springs used on sectional doors… Torsion, Extension, and TorqueMaster®.

Torsion Springs

Mounted on a stationary metal tube located above and parallel to the top of the garage door frame. The springs extend along the shaft, and work by twisting as the garage door closes by means of cables attached to each side of the lowest garage door panel. This tension makes it easier to lift the garage door from its closed position.

Extension Springs

Long heavy springs mounted on each side of the upper garage door track. Through the use of pulleys, they perform the same function as the torsion springs… they come under tension when the garage door is closed to make lifting the door easier.

Specific to Wayne Dalton brand garage doors. This design works mechanically just like a torsion spring. The big difference is the spring is “hidden” inside a metal tube that provides no significant performance difference. It’s purely aesthetic. Unfortunately, we are unable to repair the TorqueMaster® system and will recommend a conversion to the traditional torsion spring system.

We always replace garage door springs as a set.

If one spring has broken, then the other spring’s demise is not far behind. The strength of a spring decreases with time and use. The use of a new spring with an old spring can cause an imbalance in the door that cannot be corrected.

Springs are under high tension. Only qualified individuals should adjust them. This is not a “do it yourself” job!
